Illinois high school basketball games will feature a shot clock starting in 2026-27

High school basketball will look a little different in Illinois in two years.

A 35-second shot clock will be required in varsity girls and boys basketball games beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

The IHSA Board of Directors approved the recommendation brought forth by the IHSA Basketball advisory committee.

Use of the shot clock for non-varsity contests, such as junior varsity or freshmen games, will be determined by conferences and via mutual agreement by competing teams in non-conference games.
