A stunning portrait and homage to the center's founder - Eurma Hayes

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Artspace 304 proudly announces the completion of the first mural of the summer, funded through Welcome, Carbondale! Mural artist Maddie Dieters has completed the mural at the Eurma Hayes Center on W Willow St – a stunning portrait and homage to the founder.

Maddie Dieters (Marion, IL) has completed numerous murals in the Southern Illinois area. She creates public art in hopes of empowering people to appreciate and participate in creating art.

Welcome, Carbondale! is an initiative of the Southern Illinois Mural Project (SIMP), an Artspace 304 program in collaboration with the City of Carbondale, SIUC, Artspace 304, local businesses, and private donors. In-kind support provided by SIUC. Artspace 304 seeks visionary artists to create large-scale murals that greet visitors and embrace our residents.

SIMP has underwritten 8 murals throughout Southern Illinois over the past two years. Over the coming two months, through our Welcome, Carbondale initiative, we will unveil large-scale works in the downtown area by Chris DeShazo (The Wallace Building) and Antonio Martinez (Slabz).

Funds for Welcome, Carbondale! are provided by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Carbondale, and Artspace 304.
