A small earthquake was reported Tuesday morning in southern Illinois.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports a magnitude 2.5 quake occurred around 10:35 a.m. just over three miles east of Pinckneyville.
It was originally reported as a magnitude 3.0 quake was quickly downgraded to 2.5.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred in the Illinois Basin-Ozark dome region, which borders the New Madrid seismic zone.
