The Southern Illinois University Carbondale STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education Research Center recently toured Unity Point Elementary School in Carbondale and Carruthers Elementary School in Murphysboro to acknowledge students who medaled in the American Math Olympiad.

Under the direction of Dr. Harvey Henson, the STEM program continues to grow and embrace science, technology, engineering and mathematics throughout the Southern Illinois region.

The American Mathematics Olympiad reaches students in grades 2-12 and is conducted by the SIU STEM Education Center in partnership with the Singapore International Mastery Contest Center.

The goal is to develop a culture of excitement around the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Awards and prizes include medals, certificates, and inclusion in International Honor Societies.

For further information on sponsorships or how to get your school involved contact Dr. Harvey Henson at henson@siu.edu or call 618-922-1911.
