The Joppa Maple Grove School District will hear the results of three feasibility studies next week in preparation of a decline in property tax revenue.

When Electric Energy Inc announced the closing of their coal fired power plant in Joppa, local school leaders expressed concern: The plant provides the Joppa Maple Grove School District with around sixty percent of their property tax funds.

Last fall the board of education decided to conduct school reorganization feasibility studies with the three surrounding school districts, Massac County, Century and Vienna.

The studies examined all aspects of the district - including finances, curriculum, building structure, transportation, and staffing.

Superintendent Dr. Vickie Artman says they were hoping to find what’s best for the students and community.

“After the presentations, then the Joppa Maple Grove Board of Education will review the results, all the data and a strategic plan of action of what? Either no action or some type of action will be developed.”

The presentations will be held at Shawnee Community College June 7th, 8th and 9th at 7pm.
