Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias has awarded over $1.3 million to nearly 2,500 public school libraries across the state.
The funding supports students in kindergarten through 12th grade, helping schools purchase books, e-books, audiobooks, technology, and multilingual resources.
The funds come from the General Revenue Fund and are approved by the Illinois General Assembly. Librarians say the grants are vital, especially in districts where it’s the sole funding for library materials.
Giannoulias emphasized the role of libraries in educating and inspiring young minds.
