A presentation that maps out the future of Pyramid State Park and the World Shooting and Recreational Complex is set to be presented early next week.
The plan's formation took meeting once a month over the span of 15 months for the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Chancellor John Dunn and Innovation and Economic Development office to facilitate the grassroots task force that will present it's strategic planning report and recommendations on August 5 at 4 p.m. at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex Main Event Center in Sparta.
The intative to look towards the parks' futures was spearheaded by State Senator Paul Schimpf of Waterloo, Illinois.
Interim Executive Director, Lynn Andersen Lindberg, says the task force was created from a "bottom-up," approach.
"It was very important for us not to have a top-down plan where SIU came in and told everyone, 'this is what you have to do,'" Lindberg said.
In order to be on the task force, Lindberg said a person needed to be pro one or both parks and be invested in the future of southern Illinois.
Recommendations included in the report plan to develop non-shooting activities at the Shooting Complex and controlling invasive species at Pyramid State Park.
