The Illinois Veterans’ Home at Anna has announced the postponement of its volunteer fair, initially planned for October 9, 2024, due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
Currently, five residents and three staff members have tested positive, though all are only experiencing mild symptoms.
In response, the facility has taken immediate action, following the infection control guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
These measures include enforcing social distancing, mandating masks in direct care areas, and implementing intensified cleaning and disinfection procedures throughout the facility.
Regular and expanded COVID-19 testing has also been initiated for both staff and residents to help control the spread of the virus.
The Veterans' Home at Anna depends on volunteers to bring meaningful programs, events, and activities to its residents, which contribute to their mental, emotional, and social well-being.
The volunteer fair will be rescheduled once the outbreak status has been lifted, and the Home can safely accommodate visitors again.
