The third trip for the Honor Flight of Southern Illinois takes place Tuesday.

Honor Flight board member Hope Patterson says 68 veterans will be heading to Washington, D.C.
"We do have World War II, Korean War veterans. We have a Vietnam veteran on board. We have another veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Then, we have some in between the Korean and Vietnam wars. Our oldest veteran, though, is 104."

Patterson says this is the third flight since the initial trip one year ago. She says they now have a waiting list of around 160 veterans.

"We take all veterans age 65 and older, regardless whether they served during war time or not. We recognize they answered their call to serve and that we would like to honor them in this capacity."

Patterson says the amount of donations currently allows for two flights per year. Each flight costs 90-thousand dollars.

The flight departs Veterans Memorial Airport in Marion at 6:30 Tuesday morning and returns around 8:30 Tuesday night.
