A Kansas man has been sentenced for charges related to the 2016 shooting of a Carbondale police officer.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 24-year-old Alex Karcher received a 27-and-a-half year prison.
Last November, Karcher pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery to a police officer and delivery of more than five-thousand grams of a substance containing cannabis.

Karcher admitted that he, along with others, came to Carbondale in July 2016 to collect on a debt from a previous drug deal. He also admitted to firing at pursuing police officer Trey Harris seven times as he sped away from a shooting scene in the 700 block of North Robert A. Stalls. One of those shots hit Harris in the eye.
