Drive safe over the holiday.

The Herrin Police Department is launching a campaign against impaired driving during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year. In 2018, the Illinois Department of Transportation says there were 15 car crash fatalities over the Thanksgiving weekend. Five of the 15 deaths involved at least one driver who had been drinking.

The "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaigns will target unbuckled drivers and people driving while impaired. The high-visibility effort will have police out in force from November 22 to December 2.
