Unknown caller show on mobile phone screen.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is warning area residents about a telephone scam involving their office.

An unknown caller claims to be a representative of the Jackson County Sheriff's office, identifying himself as Sergeant Corey Foster.

The caller demands payment for an arrest warrant issued for failing to appear to a court summons.

The caller advises the fine can be paid to him over the phone.

The calls come from what are believed to be multiple spoofed telephone numbers and show up as a local 618 area code.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department wants people to know it does not call demanding any kind of payment over the phone. It also does not provide warrant information over the phone.

If you have received a call like this, contact the Sheriff's Department at (618) 684-2177.
