A domestic incident in Carbondale results in a shooting

A domestic incident led to a shooting Tuesday morning in Carbondale that has left one person in critical condition.

Carbondale Police responded to the 400 block of North Beadle Drive around 7:45 a.m.

Officers found the victim suffered a life threatening gunshot wound. Carbondale Officers and Jackson County Paramedics provided immediate live saving medical care before the victim was transported by ambulance for continued treatment. The victim is currently in critical condition.

Officers found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Evetta Hughes 31 of Carbondale, at the scene. The victim and Hughes are married.

Detectives charged Hughes with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery.
