Johnson County Sheriff's Dept. warns the public about a paving scam

The Johnson County Sheriff's Department is putting out the word about scammers in the area.

Deputies say Wednesday, an elderly Johnson County resident was approached by three men offering to blacktop her driveway. She was quoted $550, but after completing the initial work, they offered to pave an additional section for a small fee. Instead, they collected several thousand dollars in cash—with no receipt or paperwork—and quickly left the scene.

The individuals departed in a black, four-door Nissan Titan truck pulling a trailer with a tank. The vehicle’s registration is unknown.

If you have any information about this truck or have experienced a similar situation, please contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department at (618) 658-8264.

The Sheriff's Department says be cautious when approached with unsolicited offers for work. Always request a written quote and ask for references with contact information before agreeing to any services.
