Alex Gonzales

Journalist

Alex Gonzalez joined Public News Service in October of 2022. Alex finished his master’s degree in Latin American Studies at the University of Arizona in May of 2022 where his thesis research was surrounding political subjectivities among LGBTQ+ activists in the city of Rio de Janeiro at the end of 2021… a time in which Brazil was approaching a crucial and tumultuous presidential election. While a graduate student, he also worked for the university as a Spanish instructor and would later transition to a role within the Marketing and Communication Department where he would help produce and review Spanish content on behalf of the university. Alex isn’t new to news however. After graduating with his journalism and Spanish & Portuguese degrees in 2019 from the University of Arizona, he took a general assignment TV news reporter job at KSBY on California’s Central Coast where he got to cover a bit of everything. One of the most impactful and moving events he covered was the Conception Boat fire which took place in Santa Barbara in 2019. Today, Alex calls his native city of Tucson, Arizona home but loves to travel. He has a twin sister who is his best friend and is proud to call himself the son of two immigrants: a Mexican father and a Cuban mother.
