Unofficial totals from around southern Illinois - the elections will be certified in two weeks

Fayette County:
In Fayette County it was a close race for Brownstown Village Trustee Nikki Sidwell received 22 votes to William Lytle's 21 votes.

In the race for Village trustee in Farnia Christopher Kuhlman received 37 votes, Michael Ray Ford and Chas “Randy” Engel finished with 35 votes.

Franklin County:
Franklin County reported an 18% voter turnout rate, with just under 5,000 ballots cast out of more than 27,000 registered voters.

In Benton, Lee Messersmith easily won the race for Mayor over Fred Kondritz - 42% to 26%. Coy Cockrum, Christopher Kays, Don Storey, and Cathy Garavalia all won seats on the City Council.

Marian Smith Furlow was the winner in Christopher's Ward 1 race for Alderman. Matt Claxton won Ward 2, and Robert Arondelli the Third Ward 3.

Sesser's Ward 1 Aldermanic race went to Rose Bochatin, while Ward 2 went to David Bates and Ward 3 to Travis Zettler.

In West Frankfort, Timothy Arview won the race for mayor over Tom Jordan.

In Zeigler's City Council contest, Shawn Morgan, Gary Vaughn, Lorna Orlandini, and Brad Wilson were the top four vote-getters in a five-way race.

North City's Village Trustee race saw David Thery, Clint Rhine, and Michael Melson get the top three highest vote totals. Meanwhile in Valier, Kelly Girten Bate, David Kent, and John "Rob" Blondi secured the top three spots.

West City saw a crowded race for Village Trustee - Jesse Young, Teri Elise Rice, and Bruce Watkins finished on top of a six-person contest.

Benton's Public Library race saw Kathy Storey win by more than 800 votes.

In Franklin County School Board Races, Ron Winemiller, Robert Pankey, and John Metzger were winners in Benton Elementary District 47.

Ewing-Northern District 115 had six candidates for its school board. Caleb Suver, Ryan Skibo, and Jonathan Edwards were the top vote-getters.

Christopher District 99 will see Rachael Janello, Jeremy Bradley, Neil Hargis, and Gary Anderton on its school board.

In Thompsonville District 174, Leon McClerren, Brandon Chaplain, Ryan Darnell, and Melissa Hargett were the winners of a seven-person race.

Shane Garner, Clark Lance, and Kirk Leon Packer will serve on the Sesser-Valier District 196 Board.

Benton High School District 103 will have Jim Giacone, Stacia Sloan, Shane Cockrum, and Jay Copple seated.

Jackson County:
In Jackson County, Carolin Harvey easily won the Carbondale mayoral race over Harold Visser with more than 81% of the vote.

Adam Loos was the top vote-getter in the Carbondale City Council race. The other top two vote-getters to unofficially earn spots on the council are Clare Killman and Nancy Maxwell. The four candidates not receiving the necessary votes are Justin Zurlinden, Thomas Grant, Lee Fronabarger and Joshua Liechty.

In the lone contested race for the Murphysboro Board of Alderman, Rick Runge edged Gloria Campos in Ward 2.

In the DeSoto Village Trustees race, the three candidates earning the voter's trust are Tony Rushing, Rachel Alstat and Brian Gleason.

Allen Cavitt, Marilyn Pfeaster and Nancy Saunders won election to the Dowell Village Trustees.

In a 4-way race decided by 5 votes for Elkville Village Trustees, the unofficial winners are Jack Jackson, Dean Bullar and Steven Brett Cobin.

We have a tie for the third and final spot on the Gorham Village Trustees. Raymone Garmane and Rusty Huffman both received 12 votes. They were bested by David Downey and Heather Downey.

In the Unity Point School Board Race, Courtney O'Dell was the top vote-getter in a tight race that also saw Lisa Di Biase and Elizabeth Mackenbach unofficially earned spots on the board. Mackenbach edged D.W. Presley by five votes.

Jackson County's voter turnout came in at 12%.

Jefferson County:
In Jefferson County it was a close race for Mt. Vernon city councilman, Donte Moore received 405 votes to Raymond Botch Jr.’s 315 votes.

In the race for village trustee in Belle Rive Anthony Hugging received 22 votes, Billy Horton earned 21 votes, Guy Choate had the third most votes with 15, and 5 votes went to Scott Hampton.

Johnson County:
Some of the tighest races of the night were in Johnson County.

For Buncombe Village Trustee, Kelsey Groves is the unofficial winner with 22 votes. Doug Reid and Robert Prater each received 21 votes.

We had a tie in the New Burnside Village Trustee race. Frederick Heaton and Greg Taylor each received 19 votes. Joy Morris was just behind with 17.

There was another tie for Goreville Village Trustee as Jerry Frank Sullivan and Michael Scott finished with the same number of votes.

Not to be outdone, all three candidates for a full four-year term as Simpson Village Trustee received the same number of votes and both candidates for an unexpired two-year term also tied.

In the Cypress Village Trustee race, Rudy Lietzau is the unofficial winner with 11 votes. Neil West and Lois West both had 10 votes.

Richie Oliver and Howard Penrod tied for a seat on the Grade School District 64 Board of Education.

Debra Goddard and Shane Casey tied for the seat in Grade School District 43. Michelle Lynn Williams won an unexpired two-year term in that same district.

Patrick Trovillion won the race in Grade School District 55.

Ryan took District 32.

Judy Billingsley won a four-way race for the Goreville Board of Education.

David Stewart won a four-year term on the Vienna High School Board.

Voter turnout was 14%.

Marion County:
In Marion County for Centrailia City Council Isreal “Izzy” Fontanez received 336 votes and Barri Allen 298 votes.

There were five candidates in the Salem City Council race, Michael Craig Morton finished with 332 votes, Tracy Crouch received 194 votes, Jeffery Baldridge received 192 votes, Jacob Hockett has 136 votes, and Neal Canon finished with 55 votes,

Perry County:
In Perry County, Josh Downs received 648 votes for mayor of Du Quoin to Guy Alongi's 570 votes and the

Du Quoin Commissioner race had six contestants, Bob Karnes had 744, Jeff Spencer had 480, Jill Kirkpatrick had 784, Wade Crews received 604, Michael Ward 789 and Charles Genesio had 586.

Randolph County:
In unofficial results from Randolph County, Susan Harbaugh has been re-elected the Mayor of Red Bud. She defeated Daniel Brotz with 57% of the vote.

In the Sparta City Commissioner's race, Bobby Klausing and Gary Hanna received the necessary votes in a three-way race. Nathaniel Ward finished just ten votes short.

There were two contested races on the Board of Alderman in Chester. Don Berry beat Joseph Allison in Ward 3 and Danny Valleroy defeated Ray Allison.

In a 4-way race for the Coulterville Village Trustees, the candidates electe are Edward Scott Wine, Jason Wright and Bryan Dyson.

In the 4-way race for the Steeleville Village Trustees, the three winning candidates are Tom Bowlin, Bob Reiss and Clifford Knop.

The Village Trustee's race in Tilden saw Ronnie Chandler, Jeff Zimmerman and Bill Daugherty win the voter's approval over Joshua Bodeker.

In the Board of Education race in Prairie Du Rocher, Amanda Candler, Leann Walker, Kimberly Beth Deterding and Elizabeth Mudd earned spots ahead of Jeremy Volkmar and Daryl Roy.

In Sparta, Rob Soderlund, Angela Craig, Heather Price and Jennifer Morgan won 4-year terms in the school board race. Ryan Pillers won a 2-year unexpired term for the Sparta School Board.

In the Trico School District, Gerald Speith, Mario Dolce and Bryan Blazier will be seated on 4-year terms.

The county clerk's office reported a voter turnout of 19%.

Union County:
In Union County, the unofficial results in the Anna City Council race saw Kathy Bryan, Martha Ann Webb and Michael Bigler all retained their seats. They were joined by newcomer Torie Carter. The county clerk reports there are 61 mail-out ballots not yet received, which could possibly change the outcome of this race.

The Ward 2 race on the Jonesboro Board of Alderman went to Beverly Schaefer. She defeated Diana Scherer.

In a hotly contested 10-way race for the Anna District 37 School Board, the top four vote getters are Cheryl Ligon, James Hammer, Collin Crane and Brooke Frank. Again, these results are unofficial because there are still 131 mail-out ballots not yet received.

In the race for the Anna-Jonesboro High School Board of Education, Stacey Plott was the top vote getter, followed by Angie Johnson, Dean Bracken and Jed Mix. But because there are still potentially 199 mail-out ballots not yet sent back in, Ginger Meyer and Thomas Sadowski still have an outside chance to overtake Mix for the fourth and final spot.

In a 5-way race for the Dongola School Board, the four elected are Brenda Hogue, Mark D. Eddleman, Mark Tyler Eddleman and David Gaddis.

Voter turnout was 15%.

Williamson County:
There were few contested races in Williamson County, and it showed in the overall turnout - just 13% of registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday's election.

No mayoral or village president races were contested. Marion Mayor Mike Absher won reelection.

In city council and village trustee races, incumbent Rod Sievers and challengers Devin Miller and Cindy Claunch secured seats on the Carterville City Council. In Marion, John Stoecklin, Jim Webb, Doug Patton, and John Barwick Junior were the four top vote-getters in a six-person race.

For Cambria Trustee, the top three vote-getters in a four-person race were Robert Chitwood, Mark Phillips, and Robin McFarlin.

In Crainville the Trustee race was settled by less than five votes - John Oetjen won with 140, followed by Samuel Jones with 109 and Michael Harbin with 107. Marion "Poncho" Stennett received 105, falling just short.

It was a tie in Creal Springs' Ward 3, where Tracy Johns and Danny Simmons each received 23 votes.

Randy "Blue" Crompton easily won the race for Herrin Ward 2 Alderman, beating Kyle Scerena 64% to 35%.

Glen Hill secured a nearly 3-to-1 margin in his win over Dennis Jurcy in Hurst Ward 2

Chris Sullivan, Robert Swayze, and Joseph Taylor won the election for Pittsburg Village Trustee

Carterville voters said yes by a 2-to-1 margin on the question of whether the city can arrange for electricity supply for residents and small businesses, as long as they have not opted out of such a program.

Coal Valley Water District: James R. Anderson, Tony Loyd, Ronald Dean Sims, and Ronald Harris all won election to the Coal Valley Water District.

In Williamson County's school districts, Katie Whiting, Chuck Burnham, Issac Craig and Derek Lee Field each won a seat on the Carrier Mills-Stonefort School Board

Kelly Green, Susie Etherton, and Steven Young will serve on the Herrin School Board

Chris Cullum, Jimmy Dean, John Etherton, and John Van were all winners in the race for Johnston City School Board

Sheri Lawler, Joseph Bleyer, Patty Bundren, and Shannon Mohr will be seated on the Marion School Board.
