SIU Police say there is no current threat to the campus

SIU Police say three people are in custody, and they continue to investigate reports of shots fired on campus Tuesday (this) morning.

A campus alert message says the Department of Public Safety received the report from the East Campus housing area, near Schneider Hall. Officers arrived less than three minutes later, and found no victims or suspects - they did recover a 9-millimeter shell casing.

Investigators say surveillance video showed the shot fired between two groups of people, and the two groups fled in a vehicle and on foot. They say by 7:00, the vehicle was identified, and three people were taken into custody.

None of the three are students or staff at the university.
