Acting Carbondale Mayor Don Monty says he will not run for Office in 2015.
Monty was elected to the City Council in 2011 and selected as acting Mayor in January to fill the remaining term of former mayor Joel Fritzler. Monty retired from the City as Assistant City Manager in 2006 after 35 years on the job.
Monty made his announcement during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. In a written release, Monty says he has enjoyed the duties of the Mayor’s Office and serving the residents of Carbondale. But, he says at this time in his life, he wants to concentrate on personal and family obligations.
Monty says he made the decision now in order to encourage others in the community who may have an interest in running. The Carbondale municipal election is in April. Along with Mayor, city residents will fill three council positions. Both the Mayor and Council terms are for four years. More information is available on the city's webpage for those interested in running for election. Monty’s term ends in May.
