A new study shows almost half of Illinois voters think access to healthcare is the greatest challenge veterans face in this state.
The poll from the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute shows 46% of people cite access to care as the greatest challenge, while nearly 25% identified employment issues.
The picture fluctuates a bit based on whether or not the person polled has any connection to the military.
Roughly half of all veterans or those on active duty, as well as households with a military member, in the poll listed access to healthcare as the main concern. But households without a military connection cited it as the top challenge only 40-percent of the time.
The poll asked one question, "What is the greatest challenge Illinois veterans face?" In addition to healthcare access and employment, respondents listed homelessness and access to education. Nearly 20% said they didn't know.
