ON THIS DAY in 1912 The US government censors movies and photos of prize fights; it remains in place until 1940.

National Farmers Market Week is coming up next week and the Food Works Mobile Farmers Market is making extra stops in Southern Illinois to celebrate. The mobile market brings locally grown, seasonal food to locations in Jackson, Williamson and Union counties. On Monday, the market makes a special stop in Cairo at Rise Market from 2-4pm. Murphysboro Cruise Night on August 2 is a family-friendly event held in downtown Murphysboro from 5 to 9 PM. This month's theme is "Tractor Night," featuring vintage tractors alongside classic cars. Guests can enjoy food vendors, music, and a lively community atmosphere. Admission and vehicle registration are free.
