Carbondale Halloween Homecoming is Friday night from 3-10pm. Return home to Carbondale’s iconic Strip for the city’s biggest music street festival. They are shutting down the heart of the strip. Illinois Avenue will be closed from College to Elm Street for Food, fun, vendors, games and two stages featuring live music. In true Halloween fashion, there will be several costume contests. SIU Homecoming activities are on Saturday. Find the Parade in Downtown Carbondale beginning at 10 a.m. The Saluki Tailgate is from 11 to 2 on Saluki Row in anticipation of the SIU Football game vs. Northern Iowa at 2.
In Johnson County, The River to River Trail Society announces its 3rd public hike of the season on Saturday at Ferne Clyffe. The hike is free and open to the public. This will be a moderately difficult loop hike approximately 7 miles in length approximately 4 hours hiking time. Hikers should meet at 10:00 am at the Rebman Lane Trailhead. The leader of this hike can be reached at 618-791-3086 for more information. This hike is intended for people in very good health who have done some hiking. Hiking sticks and boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Hikers should bring their own water and snacks. No dogs please. Visitors are invited to stroll along illuminated paths between the historic farms and enjoy a night by the fire at the Torchlight Halloween Hike and wiener roast at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site in Coles County on Saturday, Oct. 25.
This family-friendly event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be music, storytelling, bonfires and a wiener roast near the visitor center. Volunteers from the Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation will sell cider, hotdogs, and s’mores ingredients for visitors to roast over the fire. Proceeds benefit educational and interpretive programs at the site. Some stories in the Lincoln Cabin are spooky but are child friendly. Volunteers in historic clothing and friendly ghost makeup will walk along the paths to interact with guests. The torchlit hike covers mixed terrain; guests are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and seasonal outerwear. The event is rain or shine.
