To honor SIU and Southern Illinois veterans who served their country in the U.S. armed forces, the City of Carbondale and SIU Carbondale will recognize Veterans Day on Nov. 11 at the flagpole at South Normal Avenue and West Grand Avenue on the SIU campus. The 11 a.m. ceremony will include a proclamation from Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey; remarks by veteran, Tom Harness, and the laying of a wreath with playing of taps by the SIU Trumpet Studio. If the federal government is fully open, SIU Air Force and Army ROTC cadets will participate in a vigil at the flagpole from 6 a.m. until noon, with change of guards every 15 minutes. If you require accommodations or have questions, contact Paul Copeland at the SIU Carbondale Veteran Services office at 618-453-1317 or paul.copeland@siu.edu.
