National Bobblehead HOF and Museum selected the mascot for this year's release

For the first time, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is releasing an SIU Saluki live mascot bobblehead for its annual celebration.

CEO Phil Sklar says the saluki stands out in the crowd of mascots, so his team added them to their list.

"There's not to many schools - I think it's somewhere around 50 or 60 - that have live mascots. Anything from the South Carolina (University) Gamecocks, which is a live chicken, to Georgia Bulldogs or Butler (Bulldogs). Lots of dogs and bulldogs, but the Saluki is really unique - so that's one of the reasons that we wanted to include it on our list of new live mascots."

The bobblehead is available at the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame website.

National Bobblehead Day is January 7.
