Individuals with various groups including SIU and State Sen. Dale Fowler (blue shirt) break ground on Sept. 27, 2023.

With shovels in the ground on Wednesday, progress officially got underway on the SIU Credit Union Event Center at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.

The project is being funded by a $500,000 donation from the credit union.

Chancellor Austin Lane was joined by State Senator Dale Fowler and representatives from SIU Credit Union, Touch of Nature, Fager-McGee Construction, the SIU Foundation, and the university for the groundbreaking ceremony near the entrance of Touch of Nature.

Touch of Nature is a full-service outdoor education center that serves SIU, the region, and the nation through year-round events, outdoor activities, overnight camps and therapeutic recreational camps.
