SIU's Touch of Nature will host a groundbreaking ceremony today for the SIU Credit Union Event Center. The event center, made possible with the help of a $500,000 check from the SIU Credit Union, will act as a hub for the thousands of visitors that Touch of Nature attracts each year.
The SIU Credit Union has a long history of supporting the university and according to a release, leaders say they expect this project to enhance quality of life and have a great impact on the local economy through education and tourism.
Touch of Nature is a full-service outdoor education center that serves SIU, the region, and the nation through year-round events, outdoor activities, overnight camps and therapeutic recreational camps.
The groundbreaking will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. at Touch of Nature in Makanda.
