The academic excellence of 37 high achieving high school seniors – including 16 students from the Southern Illinois region – are receiving Southern Illinois University Carbondale 2024 Chancellor’s Scholarships, which cover tuition, mandatory fees, on-campus housing and food for four years.

On Monday, Chancellor Austin A. Lane and other university officials paid surprise visits to present the scholarships and congratulate the 16 students from 11 area high schools.

Lane presented scholarships to students in Carbondale, Carterville, Herrin, Johnston City, Marion and Murphysboro. Other scholarship recipients in Southern Illinois received surprise personal visits from university officials and Brown Dawg.

The remaining 21 scholarship recipients learned of their awards during a Zoom session today.
