Memorial Service for former SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Goldman is Sunday

A memorial service for former SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Samuel Goldman is set for this weekend.

Goldman died April 16 at the age of 89.

He came to SIU Carbondale in 1980 to become dean of the then College of Human Resources. He joined then SIU President Albert Somit’s staff, focusing on regional research and service.

Afterward, Goldman served as a professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education in the then College of Education and Human Services. Along with his research, administrative and classroom work, Goldman served on the SIU Faculty Senate’s Judicial Review Board. He retired from SIU in 2003 before being named chancellor in 2008.

His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. this Sunday in the Student Center Ballrooms.
