The SIU School of Medicine celebrated the graduation of 74 new physicians during a ceremony held May 17 in Springfield.
Dr. Kevin Simon, a 2015 alum and Boston’s chief behavioral health officer, urged graduates to lead with empathy. Molly Smith, class chair, reflected on lasting bonds forged during medical school. Honorees included Dr. Diana Sarko as Carbondale Teacher of the Year and Dr. Gabriel Tobón with the Golden Apple Award.
Graduates will begin residencies across the country in specialties from emergency medicine to plastic surgery.
