Saluki Basketball Hall of Famer Mike Glenn will have his number 34 jersey retired during the upcoming men's basketball season.
The date is still being finalized. Southern Illinois University will announce the details once confirmed.
In June, SIU's Morris Library Special Collections hosted Glenn as part of the Freedom to Freedom celebration.
At that event, he said it was his first time back on campus in about ten years and it was a wonderful trip down memory lane.
"I saw so many people that I had not seen since I played from the 70's that were here. I think that was very special for me to see these people and faces."
The tremendous sharpshooter, known as Stinger, said he still follows the Saluki basketball program.
"I'm always pulling for them. (I'm) always talking with Walt Frazier about them. So, I always love to see any mention about the Salukis because I'm still a Saluki at heart forever."
Glenn scored 1,878 career points, ranking fourth on SIU's all-time scoring list. He helped lead the 1976-77 team to a Missouri Valley Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. A two-time first-team Academic All-American, Glenn earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
He was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the second round of the 1977 NBA Draft and played for the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks during a 10-year professional career.
After retiring from the NBA, Glenn became a sports broadcaster and author.
In 1980, he founded the first summer basketball camp for deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes.
Glenn's will become the third retired jersey in Saluki men's basketball history, joining Charlie "Chico" Vaughn's number 20 and NBA Hall of Famer Walt Frazier's number 52.
