It may be the start of football season, but a big basketball event is coming to southern Illinois this weekend.
Saluki basketball Hall of Famer Jamaal Tatum is bringing back to southern Illinois a remarkable collection of SIU basketball players to raise money for his non-profit Athletics Against Substance Abuse.
Tatum says the event is called Reunion at the Rim.
Some of the players coming back for the event next month include Tatum, Darren Brooks, Jermaine Dearman, Stetson Hairston, Randal Falker and Matt Shaw.
The guest speaker will be Saluki great and longtime NBA player Chris Carr.
In addition, there will be a Q and A panel with members of both teams and an auction of original artwork by Tatum.
The event will be this Saturday evening, Sept. 6 at the Giant City Lodge Banquet Room.
