Homecoming week is in full swing at SIU-Carbondale with some of the most popular events still to come.

The Halloween Homecoming Music Street Festival that will shut down The Strip tomorrow afternoon and evening, then the homecoming parade on Saturday morning followed by the Saluki football game that afternoon.

SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane says this is all about creating a college town atmosphere.

"I mean this is what we wanted to create, more of a vibrant student life, bring some of that partying that we saw back in the 80's and 90's with a purpose and maybe a little more controlled. We know that's what attracts students. It's what brings back alums. It's what engages donors. It's what connects the University with the City."

Lane says it's gratifying to see so many alumni come back to their alma mater.

"This is their University. They spent their time here developing their craft and their skill. They've taken it out from Carbondale to the world and done great things. There are some places where people don't like going back home. They don't like going back to their old university because of some of the negative experiences they had. So, we're very fortunate that our alums look forward to coming back."

The theme is “Saluki Spooktacular” with the connection to the upcoming Halloween holiday.
