VEO Scooters Safety Reminder

Courtesy: City of Carbondale

As Carbondale nears the two-year mark with VEO scooters and e-bikes, it’s crucial for residents to follow the established rules to ensure the safety and accessibility of our streets. Riders should always travel in the same direction as traffic and adhere to all traffic signals and signs. Riding on sidewalks is allowed only when necessary, and extreme caution is required in pedestrian areas. To use VEO scooters, riders must be at least 18 years old and only one person is permitted per scooter.

Proper parking is essential. Scooters should be parked in designated hubs or in public right-of-way areas, such as the grassy space between the curb and sidewalk, while leaving at least 3 feet unobstructed on the sidewalk. Avoid parking on private property or in ways that block pedestrian or vehicle access. Scooters should be parked upright using the kickstand.

To promote correct usage, VEO has increased fines for improper parking to $10 for the first violation and $15 for the second. Additionally, VEO offers discounts for parking in designated "lucky zones." Residents are encouraged to report any issues through the SeeClickFix app, VEO’s app Help Center, or by calling 1-855-VEO-2256. Let’s work together to keep our city safe and accessible for all.
