Something old is new again for the Illinois State Police.
The state's new patrol cars are now sporting a new logo, with a star between the words state and police. Trooper Mike Kindhart says it's reminiscent of a previous look, but economics also come into play:
"We're seeing the efficiency of being able to put that sticker on one door and one door only. The economy, you know, where it's not costing as much (as it does) to stripe the entire side of that vehicle."
Kindhardt says the new logo is being phased in as patrol cars are replaced. He says Chevrolet is the only auto company still making a full-size car with a police package. He says it's troopers choice whether they feel more comfortable in the new Chevrolets or the now discontinued Ford Crown Victory. Ford does offer a police package on a smaller vehicle based on the Ford Taurus as well as it's Explorer SUV.
