Several prominent Illinois Democrats are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal from imprisoned former governor Rod Blagojevich.
Illinois U.S. Congressman Danny Davis says Blagojevich is a friend of his.
"If I can be helpful to him and his family, I want to be able to do that."
He’s one of 19 people who signed the request for the high court to hear Blagojevich’s appeal.
That includes five other Illinois congressman.
The former governor became politically toxic when he was convicted of corruption in 2011.
He has served more than five years of a 14-year prison term.
"Former governor Blagojevich has received a sentence that was longer than I felt necessary." said Davis.
In 2016, the court refused to hear Blagojevich's appeal.
His attorney filed another request last month.
