Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has scheduled an online unclaimed property auction this month. Collectible coins, sports cards and jewelry are among the more than 400 unclaimed property items to be auctioned online. Many items come from safe deposit boxes that have been untouched by their owners for 10 years. After private entities have tried to locate the owners, the items are surrendered to the treasurer’s office. The online auction is coming up February 6th through 10th and you can view the available items now. If an in person auction is more your style, the treasurer’s office also conducts an annual, in-person auction of unclaimed property during the Illinois State Fair each August.
