In recognition of Military Consumer Month, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is dedicated to assisting military families who relocate to Illinois. This initiative aims to ensure that service members and their spouses have access to necessary resources when applying for professional licensure in the state.
“These brave, selfless individuals and their families sacrifice so much for the safety and security of our country,” said IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto, Jr. “They rightfully deserve any assistance they need to ensure their family’s smooth transition when moving to Illinois, and IDFPR is ready to aid them should they need a professional license to work.”
Illinois law provides several provisions to support military service members—both active-duty and those whose service ended within the past two years—in their licensure process. These include the assignment of a Military Liaison to guide applicants and collaboration with Military and Family Support Centers. The IDFPR commits to reviewing all applications within 30 days once all required documents and fees are submitted.
Furthermore, IDFPR is developing a process to allow active-duty service members and their spouses to apply for licensure with reduced requirements. Eligible applicants must be stationed in Illinois, hold an active license from another state, and have worked in their profession within the last two years. More information will be announced upon the initiative’s launch.
Additionally, the Federal Trade Commission offers tips to avoid scams targeting military families. Confirm any suspicious bank calls by contacting the bank directly, verify the legitimacy of high-paying job offers, and thoroughly research rental listings to avoid fraudulent posts.
