Illinois awards 16 grants for fire station construction and rehabilitation

Governor JB Pritzker and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal announced the innaugural Fire Station Construction and Rehabilitation Program awards. A total of $5 million dollars was given to 16 recipients around the state.

The funding will allow fire protection districts to repair, upgrade, or construct new fire stations.

Governor Pritzker said this money is important to help stations in rural areas to upgrade their facilities and equipment.

Illinois State Fire Marshall Michele Pankow these upgrades will help keep the affected communities and firefighters safer.

These fire departments will receive $350,000: Shawneetown, McLeansboro, Gorham, Buncome, Vienna, Carrier Mills, and Ware-Wolf Lake.

The Equality Fire department will receive $300,000.

Tamms and Norris City will both receive $71,000.
