Gun Violence Prevention

About six months after the Highland Park mass shooting, Illinois lawmakers advanced a bill to ban assault weapons.

SIU researchers analyzed the nature of gun violence in Carbondale and offered recommendations for prevention and intervention initiatives.

The City of Carbondale has asked SIU to research to understand the nature of gun violence in the city. Part of the research includes a gun violence community survey asking what residents have experienced or witnessed.

The goal is to push lawmakers to take up new gun-safety measures.

Supporters says this will help prevent gun accidents at home.

The coalition will pray for sensible gun violence prevention since guns are now the leading cause of death of children in the U.S.
