Assessment teams from numerous National Weather Service offices will be back in the field today, taking a closer look at damage from Friday night's catastrophic storms in the region.
Preliminary information rates the tornado that tore through western Kentucky was at least an EF-3 before it slammed into Mayfield, and the survey of the Mayfield area will begin today to figure out the strength of the storm.
Meanwhile the storm system that caused a warehouse collapse in Edwardsville, Illinois produced five tornadoes. The one that hit Edwardsville has a preliminary rating of EF-3, while another on the ground from Ramsey to Herrick was an EF-1 to an EF-2.
Many are still missing from the Friday night storms, and at numerous people died. Emergency operations centers and National Guard response teams are still in place to assist in the cleanup and recovery.
Crews from multiple southern Illinois EMS, Fire, and Police departments are lending a helping hand in Edwardsville and in Western Kentucky, as those areas continue search and rescue efforts as well as cleanup from the devastating tornadoes Friday night.
