In response to the severe weather forecast, the City of Carbondale is opening the basement of the Carbondale Civic Center at 200 South Illinois Avenue as a public storm shelter.

Residents seeking shelter are encouraged to arrive early and bring any necessary personal items.

The Carbondale Warming Center at 608 East College Street is also serving as a storm shelter through Thursday at 1 p.m.

Both the Civic Center basement and the Warming Center will open to the public at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
