There's no word yet on the cause of Monday morning's fire at the vacant Walnut Street Baptist Church in Carbondale.
The streets around the structure were closed to traffic until after 8 p.m.
The City of Carbondale is tearing down the building impacted by the blaze.
The City Council just last week voted to demolish part of the building.
The City of Carbondale posted to its social media pages that although there was a small amount of asbestos on pipe insulation in the basement, the fire was contained to the 2nd and 3rd floors. There was no fire in the basement and no risk of asbestos exposure to anyone.

The Fire Department notified the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency that the building is a public safety risk.
