Marion Police Officer Shot

Marion, IL – A Marion police officer remains hospitalized after a shooting Monday, while responding to a possible domestic disturbance.
Illinois state police say officer Steve Cannon has no life threatening injuries, and is recovering at a St. Louis-area hospital while awaiting an operation on his hand, where he was shot.
States Attorney Chuck Garnati commends the responding police officers and attributes the postive outcome of the situation to their excellent training professionalism and bravery.
Investigators say half a dozen police officers responded within minutes to 9-1-1 calls of a possible domestic disturbance on Van Buran Street in Marion.
-year-old Harry Schauf, was standing outside his home, armed with a handgun, when he fired as officers approached. Police returned fire and wounded him.
The man's 35-year-old wife, Tina Pickens, was found collapsed and wounded about a block away.
Schauf and Pickens are being hospitalized and are in serious condition.
Both the suspect and his wife are expected to survive.
Last week, two Illinois state police troopers were wounded in a shootout while serving a search warrant in neighboring Carbondale. Both officers have been released from the hospital.
