Carlyle, IL – The trial of a southwestern Illinois man accused of fatally beating his girlfriend's 3-year-old son was halted when the suspect entered pleas acknowledging prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him.
Twenty-four-year-old Scott Endicott entered Alford pleas in Clinton County to two counts of First-Degree Murder. By doing so, he didn't admit guilt but said he believed the case against him was too strong.
Endicott's trial began Monday in Carlyle. He was accuse of causing the injuries that killed Joseph Schoolfield in January 2009.
Endicott's public defender had argued that blame should be placed on the boy's mother, who's also charged with First-Degree Murder and awaits trial.
Endicott's sentencing is scheduled for September 29th.
