A large crowd showed its excitement as a new sign was unveiled this afternoon for the newly named Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center at the Southern Illinois Airport.

The SIU Board of Trustees in July approved renaming the facility after the three-degree SIU alumnus, former SIU System president and former state and federal lawmaker.
During a ceremony held just before the unveiling, Poshard said this is a proud moment for him.
Poshard said so many people deserve recognition for making the now 10-year-old TEC possible, from lawmakers to the world renowned faculty to the deans and chancellors of the automotive and aviation colleges to SIU-C administrators and his assistant to the SIU trustees.
While his name is on the building, Poshard said it's the students who make this building what it is.
The 187,000 square-foot educational facility – considered the premier such structure in the Midwest and among the top such facilities in the country – is home to SIU-C’s nationally recognized School of Automotive and School of Aviation programs.
Among those at the dedication were current SIU President Dan Mahony, SIU-C Chancellor Austin Lane, SIU Board of Trustees Chair Phil Gilbert, Vice Chair Ed Hightower, Trustee Roger Tedrick, as well as SIU-C alumnus and assistant professor in the School of Automotive Technology Oliver Keys.
