Classes are cancelled and most offices closed on Friday, after an extended power outage left most of the campus in the dark.
The lights went out around 8:30pm Thursday, with the outage impacting most of the SIU Carbondale campus, as well as parts of Carbondale, Makanda, and rural Jackson County.
The University issued an Administrative Closure Day around 1:00 Friday morning, cancelling classes and most offices.
Essential personnel, however, are still required to report - those include housing and dining staff, public safety, and others. Staff with any questions about whether or not they should report should contact their supervisors.
Some events will still go on as scheduled - including
- New Student Orientation
- the Men of Color Campus to Career Conference (moving to Grinnell Hall)
- Athletic Events (as scheduled)
- Evening events at the Student Center, including the SIH Gala
