Mullins 2nd in MVC Coach of the Year Race, Benson Named Scholar-Athlete

Much to the chagrin of SIU fans, Northern Iowa head coach Ben Jacobson is the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

Saluki rookie head Coach Bryan Mullins finished second.
Jacobson's Panthers won the MVC regular season title after being picked to finish 3rd in the pre-season rankings.

Meanwhile, SIU was picked 10th in the pre-season rankings and finished fifth.

Barret Benson

Saluki center Barrett Benson did pick up an award as he named to the league's scholar-athlete first team. Benson is the only player on the team to earn a perfect 4.0 GPA.

SIU opens Missouri Valley Conference Tournament play Friday at 2:30 p.m. vs. Bradley. The Braves won both regular season meetings: 67-48 in Peoria on Jan. 11 and 69-67 in Carbondale on Feb. 15.
