A vigil and a separate rally are set to be held in Carbondale

Two of events in Carbondale will deal with issues happening at the federal level.

At 9 p.m. on Friday, January 9, at Friendship Park, the corner of South Illinois Avenue & Mill Street, what's being termed as a quiet, peaceful, candlelight vigil will take place in memory and honor of Renee Nicole Good, the woman shot and killed by an ICE agent this week in Minneapolis.

Then, on Saturday, January 10 from noon to 2 p.m., people are encouraged to gather at the intersection of Route 13 and North Illinois Avenue to educate the public using a series of signs outlining the elements which define fascism.

Members of SOFA -- or Signs of Fascism Activists -- with support from Positive Action Committee Carbondale, Like Minded Women, and Indivisible Shawnee -- will be dressed in all black to communicate what they believe is the seriousness of this threat to our democracy. This unique demonstration is designed to be peaceful, silent, non- inflammatory, informative and thought-provoking.
