One project included planting 100 trees to commemorate 100 years.

As the Du Quoin state fair approaches, work is being done to mark it's 100 year anniversary.

Fair manager Josh Gross said his team has been making improvements for the past year, including renovations to buildings and infrastructure updates, to be ready to mark the historic occasion.

"You know, it's a special year. Very rarely do you get to be part of something that's a 100th anniversary, so when you do you've gotta take it pretty serious. And I think that's what we've done, everyone in the department of agriculture, everyone at the Du Quoin state fair, we're excited to be a part of it," he said.

This year's fair begins on August 26th.
