Jobs and unemployment rates across much of Illinois

Jobs were up in most metropolitan areas of Illinois in September.

Over-the-year, total non-farm jobs increased in eleven metro areas and decreased in three for the year ending September 2023, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

The Carbondale-Marion metro area had an increase of 400 non-farm jobs.

Conversely, unemployment rates went up in all 14 metro areas from September 2022 to this September.

In the Carbondale-Marion area, the rate increased from 3.7 last year to an even 5 percent this year.

Statewide, the unemployment rate jumped from 4.2 to 4.9 percent.
