Illinois payroll jobs were up and the unemployment rate was stable in March

Illinois' unemployment rate was unchanged in March at 4.8 percent, that's one percentage point higher than the national rate.

Non-farm payrolls jobs in Illinois increased by nearly 13,000.

The State Department of Employment Security reports the industry sectors with the largest over-the-month job gains included Government, Leisure and Hospitality and Trade, Transportation and Utilities. The industry sectors with monthly payroll declines included Financial Activities and Mining.

Compared to a year ago, non-farm payroll job groups with the largest increases included Government, Private Education and Health Services and Leisure and Hospitality. The industry groups with the largest jobs decreases included Professional and Business Services, Information and Financial Activities.
